When asked about his interest in the art form he said, Born and raised on Whidbey Island WA Hart started his photographic practices as a student at South Whidbey High School with an introductory black and white photography course from teacher Don Wodjenski. Starting at age 15 he began putting in long hours behind the shutter and in the darkroom. After graduating in 2001 he spent one year studying at Central Washington University in Ellensburg WA and then three years at The Evergreen State College in Olympia WA, where he would graduate with a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in photography and Japanese language and culture in 2005. While at Evergreen he became fascinated with the idea that every photograph, no matter how straight forward, altered, or digitized are all fabrications of light. Having taken relatively few art classes compared to most degree brandishing artists, six photo classes to date (two in high school and four in college) and one art history course, has allowed his work to develop in a academically personal way. Post graduation Hart spent three months traveling in Japan reacquainting himself with old friends and places while brushing up on his linguistic and cultural understanding. Currently he resides and works in and around the Seattle area of Washington State.
